This Christmas there will be 296 children and teenagers in care in Torfaen. These children won’t get the Christmas luxuries that most other children get to enjoy; they won’t be spending Christmas day with their families, opening presents under the Christmas tree, laughing, smiling and making lasting, happy memories. This is a very unfortunate reality; however, Torfaen Social Services Santa Appeal is hoping to make it a joyful time of year for all, by giving these children a gift they truly deserve.

Every child and teenager was asked to write a Christmas Wish List to Torfaen Social Services and, unlike most children this Christmas, their lists do not include Playstation 4’s and iPhone 6’s, instead they’ve asked for more practical gifts like clothes and books. The organisation has since been seeking generous individuals to offer their help by donating a gift from the wish list, so that they can put smiles back on the children’s faces on Christmas morning.

Fullcircle, a Facilities Management company based in Llantarnam, have joined in the appeal with members of staff donating just some of the presents on the lists, but all of them, to 27 teenagers. Aaron Flowers, an Administration Supervisor for Fullcircle, headed up the appeal: “I have been donating gifts to Torfaen Social Services for many years now”, says Aaron. “I think it is so important to support these children, as they all deserve love and encouragement. I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of my fellow colleagues at Fullcircle; everyone has contributed and each of the parcels includes gifts to the value of £75-£100. It is such a great feeling to be able to deliver 27 parcels which will help to make Christmas special for them.”

Collectively, Fullcircle staff decided to provide presents for teenagers, as often these are the kids in care that get forgotten about. In many cases these young adults take on the responsibilities of looking after the younger children in care and therefore are more than deserving of a gift at Christmas.

If you would like to participate and spread a little joy this Christmas please call Torfaen Social Services on either 01633 647545 or 01633 647539.
