As the climb up Kilimanjaro is just 13 days away, the fundraising is becoming more and more intensive. In the past two weeks we’ve found a new sponsor, received countless donations on the justgiving page and offline donations as well. One of the charity champions Lee ‘Jukesy’ Jukes of Bridge FM has been fund-raising tirelessly for the Kilimanjaro climb and sent us an update of his progress.
“The text line is bubbling along nicely in the background and as of last week we have £47 from the Bridge FM listeners. Recently, I decided to organise a few collections via my friend at Sainsbury’s in Bridgend. So far we’ve held two collections and raised £164. Sainsbury’s are very kindly keeping a collecting bucket on their customer service desk right up till when we return from Africa. We have two further collections at Sainsbury’s in Bridgend. One this Thursday and another next Tuesday.
On Sunday while eating my dinner, I had a knock at my front door. It was two little 10 year old girls who live in my street. They told me that they had heard about me taking part in our challenge on the radio and decided to go around the street with a sponsor form and collect from my neighbours on my behalf. Little Tyler-May and Darcy raised £47. They then knocked again yesterday evening and had raised a further £66. That’s a total of £113!
This morning while covering the breakfast show, I received a phone call from a Bridgend town centre based insurance brokers called KJ Herbert Insurance. They’ve been holding a few ladies nights recently and had heard about me taking part in the Kilimanjaro challenge. They had a vote and it was unanimous that they donate the cash to our challenge and the Dreams and Wishes charity. They have raised a total of £685!
Add these totals to the amount raised on the text line as of last week and we have £1009 so far!! I am very happy with this and with the support that the challenge is generating locally. Whenever I’m out and about, people are asking about the challenge and I’m getting regular good luck messages via my personal social media.”
Also fundraising is another charity champion ‘Mollycoddle’ Mairead McGoldrick, who has her own justgiving page through which she has raised nearly £900. We’ve therefore reached over 40% of our £50,000 target. A massive thank you to all our donators including the Bridge FM listeners, the customers at Sainsbury’s Bridgend and of course to two of our youngest fundraisers Little Tyler-May and Darcy!
