For the first time in the UK all three of the Armed Forces – the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force- are joining their training facilities together.

The new Defence College of Technical Training is based at a former airbase, RAF Lyneham, in Wiltshire. Once the new facilities are complete the site will comprise of living accommodation for more than 1,100 trainees, purpose built teaching facilities, a large outdoor training area, a public museum and new homes for the Army’s Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME).

The £121m project, named Hercules J.V, is running as a joint venture between Kier and Balfour Beatty. In order to complete the project within the schedule they have had to sub-contract various projects to provide a skilled workforce. Fullcircle Total Facilities Management, a trading name of Three Nations Ltd, has won the complete mechanical and electrical contract worth £3m.

The contract consists of a total turnkey of mechanical and electrical works plus design and installation of the museum, gymnasium and the OR Bar. This will consist of a full electrical, air conditioning, ventilation and plant room installation, as well as a complete heating package. All this will be controlled through a Building Management System (BMS),which is a computer-based control system that monitors the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment. The project employs 40 Fullcircle staff of fully trained electricians, plumbers, air conditioning engineers and CAD designers.

From the outset of the project, Fullcircle proposed CAD designs following the specifications of Hercules J.V. Since receiving agreement of the final plans, work has begun on the manufacturing of ducting and installation of the full mechanical and engineering package. The project is currently on schedule and within budget, and will be completed by August 2015.

All the ventilation ducting for the project has been manufactured at Fullcircle’s fabrication unit. Gary Smith, Fullcircle Project Manager of the Hercules J.V contract says “it is great that as a company we can be self-sufficient in completing this project by working together across departments within Fullcircle.”

Fullcircle provide the complete solution in total facilities management. All departments from electrical, construction, heating, ventilation and air conditioning can work independently, but also, on a project like this, it gives opportunity for the departments to join forces and offer the full package to customers. “It is one of our key selling points we, as a company, pride ourselves on – providing a bespoke facilities management package to meet clients’ needs” states Gary, “and as the company has continued to grow we are now able to offer our customers even more. With this in mind, it gives us the capabilities to continue winning large contracts like this one.”
